Aune – clothes for the bed

This might not be an extraordinary project in it self, but the idea behind it is kind of new and cleaver… There are many things and products in our life’s that we for some reason just have decided should be either flat or have a shape. It’s like that with bed linen, for some reason they are always flat and designer Malin Åkerblom wanted to do something about that. AUNE is a bedding collection created with great care on the three dimensional form, made out from a method that is otherwise used in the fashion industry, where shape and volume is critical. I love the idea of creating an extra level of volume to a flat object (just imagine how you can play with colors in these shapes!) and I hope to see more artistic and bold shapes in the future! My Own Public Room

Ah!! I love the portfolio of Ditte Hammerstrøm so much that I am actually having a really difficult time choosing what to show you! First of I defiantly have to show you this amazing project she has done together with Sonesson Indretning and Maria Keinicke Davidsen / Centre for Sports and Architecture. It is called “My Own Public Room” and as the name suggests this is furniture’s made for the changing room. I love, love, love the clean, minimal and raw style and I definitely think a lot of public changing rooms would be given a real makeover if they just had this furniture’s! More pics after the jump!

Bistro Light

Seen at MomentumDesign:

Ditte Hammerstrøm really surprised me with her simple and rough yet sophisticated and soft designs. At MomentumDesign she exhibited the chairs Bistro Light – an upholstered chair with slightly distorted proportions, which enable new ways of using the chair. With a clean-cut base with 4 legs, she really manages to give the chairs characters by simply tying foam to the base. It looks fun, light and really comfortable. More form Ditte Hammerstrøm will follow tomorrow! (more…)

Time Present

Seen at MomentumDesign:

‘Time Present’ is the master project from Swedish Cecilia Dreyfert at HDK – School of Design and Crafts in Gothenburg.  ‘Time Present’ is exhibited as a movie and as an elegant, black gift box with a small diamond shaped candle inside. The idea is to embody the perception of time as a precious gift and question the attitude that ‘time is money’. The candle will burn out in one hour – and I like the symbolism of using the diamond shape as a measurement of how precious one hour can be. “Time present” is a cute concept, not really amazingly deep or extraordinary in any way, but it leaves you with a good feeling and it works as a great reminder of enjoying life. MomentumDesign

I finally have some vacation time but off course I’m out of luck when it comes to the weather. But when it’s a rainy summer day, nothing is better than going on a good exhibition.
MomentumDesign is an exhibition dedicated to what happens in the cross-area between art and design, a subject I am really inspired by.

The exhibition itself is held in the beautiful old industrial buildings in Moss, and just to see the spectacular view of the harbour and the cellulose fabric is worth a visit. A great surprise to me was that I had already written about many of the exhibited works here on Playmedesign, so in one way it was great to see that my “trend spotting” is right on. It is exiting to see that design gets this kind of focus and appreciation in Norway, and I really think they have collected a good variety between interesting, fun, smart and special objects. Many of these objects balance on the thin line between art and design, and to exhibit them as design objects in an art museum is therefore really suiting.

The section of Hareide Design was not so impressive – although they’ve had great success, their work is not particularly interesting and many other Norwegian design offices has equally as interesting history as them.

The exhibition is opened until the 18th of October, so if you happen to be in the area of Moss, Norway I would strongly recommend a visit to MomentumDesign. In the next few post will present some of the works from the exhibition, which I have not yet written about here on playme…
