The Fall/winter 2010 collection from Artecnica contains some really nice pieces. One of them is this Bright side light from by New York-based trio Rich Brilliant Willing. I love the use of clear glass as it gives a great contrast between a heavy feeling (due to its big size) and a light and almost cold sensation thanks to of the colour of the glass. And to make the design even more extraordinary each lamp has a different messages like “In the right light, at the right time, everything is extraordinary.” Could it be better?

Ok, I must admit I know little or nothing about playing cards, and if you asked me to play poker I would probably loos all my money or all of my cloths in a heartbeat. BUT I do know good design, and this deck of playcards, designed by Hatch Design for Sentinels, is just stunning! The design is very detailed, and every single design element has a meaning behind it. The deck represents magic, the industry of deception, and the allied arts. The box is printed on imported paper 40% thicker than normal tuck cases – and has metallic accents on six sides. Check out the video and be sure to see the rest of the images after the jump!

Foscarini is yet again introducing a new lamp and this time it’s the table lamp, called Tua. The design is minimal and elegant, and by simply bending the shaped metal, it becomes both the support and the screen for the lamp. Although I must admit I like the more colourful, and ruff style from Foscarini –this certainly is a timeless and classical product that would look good on any kind of night table! Tua is designed by Marco Zito.

A chair is something you sit on – but what if you ad an extra shape to it, so that it doesn’t resemble the classical chair-shape anymore? It still maintain its function, but by giving it a different form, the main function switches over to be an aesthetic object, – a sculpture. The fact that you can sit on it, now becomes secondary. But is it design, or art, or maybe both?
Nacho Carbonell is a hot name at the moment- and with his strange, different and unique works he has made the design industry raise the question on what is design and what is art? If you have followed this site for a while, you already know that this is a subject I am passionate abut, and I love the fact that magazines are starting to talk about this. See more pictures of Naco Carbonells work after the jump, and be sure to visit his site to see videos and interviews of the artist/designer.
“I like to see objects as living organisms, imagining them coming alive and being able to surprise you with their behaviour. I want to create objects with my hands, then I can give them my personality. I turn them into communicative objects that can arouse one’s sensations and imagination. In short, what I want to create are objects with a fictional or fantasy element, that allow you to escape everyday life.” -Nacho Carbonell (more…)

‘Time Present’ is the master project from Swedish Cecilia Dreyfert at HDK – School of Design and Crafts in Gothenburg. ‘Time Present’ is exhibited as a movie and as an elegant, black gift box with a small diamond shaped candle inside. The idea is to embody the perception of time as a precious gift and question the attitude that ‘time is money’. The candle will burn out in one hour – and I like the symbolism of using the diamond shape as a measurement of how precious one hour can be. “Time present” is a cute concept, not really amazingly deep or extraordinary in any way, but it leaves you with a good feeling and it works as a great reminder of enjoying life.
