I have written about her before but I just think there is something strange, beautiful and a bit different with her drawings, so here are some of the latest works from Shawna X. I cant really put the finger on what it is that makes these drawing stand out for me, maybe its because she almost always includes animals in some ways, or maybe it’s the way her illustrations seems inspired by fashion, Japanese drawing style and art… I just know I really like them! Last night I went to see a presentation by the successful Dutch design agency De Designpoilite. I knew little bit about them before, but I was amazed by the fact that they produce a small drawing, a gorilla, every day – six days a week for a Dutch news paper. They get to know the headliners for the next days and in less than three hours they have to come up with an idea, sketch it, draw it and send it to press. At the dailygorilla.nl you can see the entire gallery of more than 700 gorillas, and after the jump you can see some of my favourite gorillas from their more recent work. (more…)

“When you look closely at bees, wasps, and flies, they are quite complex and ugly. When you study a bird, it seems at home in the air, but with these creatures it almost feels as if they shouldn’t fly. I wanted to find and emphasize their beauty, while also keeping their natural dark edge.” -Si Scott
Si Scott is back with some amazing drawings and this time its wasps, flies and bees in flight in the series he has called Airborne. As usual his illustrations are filled with details and such a craftsmanship that you can help but to be fascinated by it. Airborn is planed to be exhibited in 2010.
The Norwegian designfirm Commando Group was appointed by D2 magazine to do the illustrations for a cover story on perfume in November. Not only did the final result become stunning and sophisticated drawings, but here you can also see some of the sketches on their way to the final illustrations. I love how they captured and maintained the old school feeling that makes me think of Hitchcock movies and Mad Men….
