Thursday it was time for another Pecha Kucha at DogA here in Oslo. I’ve been to this event several times before and I love the concept of each speaker having only 20 slides, and 20 seconds to speak per slide. Pecha Kucha was originally devised in Tokyo in 2003, as an evening for young creative’s to meet, network, and show their work in public. The event has become an international success and an important community for networking and exchange of ideas. The program this time was not exactly my cup of tea to say it mildly, so I hope to see more design and architecture next time, and a little les strange art/theatre/ performance things. One of the highlights for the night was the Norwegian photographer Jan Erik Svendesen with his evocative photos, like this one taken in Longyearbyen for The guardian.
It’s been a hectic couple of days and that is the reason for the lack of posting. Wednesday was the opening party for Monki store in Oslo and here are some photos from the party as well as the new collection. I love the way they’ve manage to transform the old H&M store into a funky and colourful showroom that actually stands out in Bogstaveien. Check out more pictures after the jump!
I know this has already been all over the web but I just cant help my self, and have to post it. Landmines are every day killing people, and Publicis Mojo came up with this cleaver idea in order to raise awareness about the subject. Campaign Against Landmines, CALM, is appealing to New Zealanders to donate money to help clear landmines in Southern Lebanon. The photo of a human body printed on a small bag off ketchup has quite an impression when ripping of the corner/body part and seeing all the red stuff come out. I love, love, love provocative design that force you to think and to have some sort of reaction to it, and I really hope this campaign will make people dig deep into their pockets in order to prevent this from happening to more people.
This weekend I went to DogA the Norwegian center for design and architecture to see some amazing documentaries about design and advertisements. Ignorant people have told me that my occupation as designers is superficial and that a designer doesn’t have real impact on people’s life. Obviously this people couldn’t be more wrong, but I am so glad to see some movies about good design with some real substantial thoughts behind it. Check out Dutch Profiles- a series of short documentaries about architects and graphic, product and fashion designers in the Netherlands, commissioned by DutchDFA. Dutch Profiles focuses on the conceptual, context-oriented and research-based practice of Dutch designers, telling the story behind some of those well-known images. Enjoy!
